At the same time, it improves the utilization efficiency of raw materials and promotes the use of green raw materials through the transformation of processes and the application of new materials and other measures. Hainan Mining attaches importance to the risks and opportunities of climate change and the impact of its own climate action on the outside world. The company has incorporated China's “3060” carbon peak carbon neutral target into the overall layout of its business development. In 2024, the company carried out scope 1, 2 and part of the scope 3 carbon inventory covering all of its business, and clarified its own carbon emissions. The company also set a greenhouse gas emission reduction target of “by 2030, the carbon emission intensity of the company's scope 1 and scope 2 revenue in 10,000 CNY will be reduced by at least 10% compared to that of 2024” based on reference to cases of overseas and domestic counterparts, and full consideration of the company's past trends and its future business plan.
Hainan Mining adheres to the attitude of being responsible for the ecological environment, constructed a perfect environmental management organization structure, formulated a supporting environmental management system, continuously strengthened the prevention and control of environmental risks, established an environmental emergency management system, reduced the negative environmental impacts in all aspects, and ensured that the environmental protection risks are controllable and operated in a compliant manner. In 2024, the Company invested a total of 29,282,600 CNY in environmental protection, which was mainly used for the maintenance of roads in the plant area, dust management, monitoring of environmental quality and pollutants, soil management in the plant area, transfer and disposal of hazardous waste, replacement of equipment in water treatment facilities and operation of dust collector and ore dressing wastewater treatment facilities. At the same time, the company actively participates in or carries out environmental protection training and publicity activities, continuously improves environmental protection cognition, shapes a green, low-carbon and environmentally friendly corporate atmosphere, and helps to realize sustainable development.
In order to realize green development and compliant operation, Hainan Mining actively carries out pollutant and waste management, formulates and implements relevant systems, and reduces pollutant and waste emissions through management enhancement and process and equipment improvement. Meanwhile, the company manages the tailing ponds properly, ensures their safety and environmental protection, avoids corporate environmental protection risks, establishes a good image, and contributes to sustainable development. Shilu Branch continues to promote the magnetization roasting technology transformation project, which is expected to reduce tailings emissions by about 800,000 tonnes per year after it goes into operation. In addition, Shilu Branch has completed the replacement of 4 sets of bag dusters, realizing a year-on-year reduction of particulate matter emissions by 639 kg.
In order to promote green and sustainable development, achieve a win-win scenario of cost reduction/efficiency improvement and environmental protection, Hainan Mining makes multi-dimensional efforts in energy and resource utilization. Through a series of effective measures to rationally optimize the energy structure, improve resource efficiency, reduce environmental pollution, and achieve common enhancement of economic and environmental benefits. In terms of energy management, Hainan Mining improves the systems and carries out system certification, and promotes energy saving and emission reduction through the purchase of green power and new energy transportation vehicles. Hainan Mining and Shilu Branch have obtained ISO 50001 energy management system certification, and ROC Chengdu has established an energy management system. In terms of water resources utilization, Hainan Mining implementes water management and assessment, and carries out water recycling. In the Bajiaochang Project, ROC has realized the recycling of fracking wastewater through technological improvement, saving nearly 3.6 million CNY in wastewater treatment costs. Shilu Branch constructed a 5,000 cubic meters high-level pool in the mining area and a 3,000 cubic meters pool in the Hongqi tailings storage to pool water resources and reuse them for production, with the industrial water recycling rate reaching more than 95%. In terms of raw materials utilization, Hainan Mining improves the efficiency of mineral processing through the technological transformation of the magnetization roasting process, and expands the use of green materials by replacing the traditional diesel-based drilling fluids with white oil-based drilling fluids.
Hainan Mining strictly abides by the relevant national regulations on the red line of ecological protection, and withdraws from the production and operation sites involving the red line of ecological protection in a timely and orderly manner. At present, all production and operation of the company do not involve the scope of ecological protection red line. The company attaches importance to mine greening reclamation and ecological restoration. Shilu Branch sets up a special greening team to carry out tree planting and grass planting every year. From the establishment of the company in 2007 to the end of 2024, a total of 3,580,300 trees have been planted, a total ecological restoration area of 3,637,300 square meters has been accumulated, and a total of 167,338,700 CNY has been invested in the management of funds. In 2024, Shilu Branch signed a cooperation agreement on mine ecological restoration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University to accelerate the synergistic restoration of biodiversity and ecological service systems in the mining area by improving the soil environment in the reclamation area and promoting the growth of secondary forest trees in the iron ore mining area.
